Strength Earned. Measured by Performance. Proven by Data.

A performance-based high school football rating system built around one fundamental question:

WHO WOULD ACTUALLY BEAT WHO ON A NEUTRAL FIELD?

Introduction

The StatBlitz Index was developed by an independent analyst with a passion for high school football, data modeling, and competitive analytics.
Frustrated by the limitations of existing rating systems, the StatBlitz Index was built from the ground up to deliver a more accurate, transparent, and engaging approach to evaluating teams across the country and within each state. The Index blends performance-based metrics, opponent strength, game context, and predictive analytics to generate rankings, projected spreads, and win probabilities.
Every component of the StatBlitz Index is designed with one goal in mind: to identify how teams actually perform—not just who wins, but how and against whom.
The model is continuously refined through backtesting, data analysis, and real-game validation, with the long-term vision of becoming a trusted and compelling high school football rating platform nationwide.

Please note: The StatBlitz Index evaluates teams based on opponent strength, game context, and performance vs expectation—not just wins and losses.

The StatBlitz Index is designed not to follow the conversation—but to lead it.

The “Priors” Phase: Why Preseason Ratings Are a Novelty

* Our 2026 preseason ratings will be based on mathematical baselines derived from historical program performance. We do not factor in returning rosters, nor transfer additions. Until the pads pop, preseason ratings serve as a starting point for conversation rather than a definitive measure of current strength.

The Path to “Official” Rankings

To maintain the integrity of our analytics, we do not release “Official” power rankings or game predictions until our models have a sufficient sample size to work with. Our transition from speculation to data-driven reality requires two key criteria:

Strength of Competition: A win is not just a win. Ratings will remain “unofficial” until a team has faced at least one quality opponent (defined by our strength-of-schedule metrics). Dominating a sub-par opponent provides limited predictive value; we need to see how metrics hold up against comparable talent.

Minimum Game Threshold: We require a minimum of three to four games (to be determined based on backtesting results) for every school. This allows the statistical “noise” of a single outlier performance to settle, giving our Index a more stable team profile.

Our Commitment to Accuracy

By delaying official rankings, we avoid the “poll inertia” and early-season hype that often plague traditional media. Our goal is not to be the first to rank teams, but to be the most accurate.

Credits & Acknowledgments

The creation of the StatBlitz Index has been shaped by years of following high school football and learning from some of the most dedicated individuals and platforms in the sport. I would like to recognize Ken Massey and Ned Freeman, whose analytical work and rating systems have long been admired. Their work inspired me to pursue a long-term personal goal—taking a lifelong interest in football and pairing it with a constantly active analytical mindset, despite not having a formal programming background.

Much of my early high school football education came through the Rivals forum community, led by Dallas Jackson, along with later participation in the PrepGridiron community, both of which featured passionate and knowledgeable contributors within this niche space. It is unfortunate that some of these communities have become inactive, but their impact remains.

Finally, appreciation goes to advancements in artificial intelligence, including OpenAI, Gemini, and especially ChatGPT—referred to here as “Spock”—for playing a key role in helping bring this long-term vision to life.

We’d Like to Hear From You
